The problem is Ricardo Jr., the original owner's son. He now runs the store in La Plaza Mall, and he is a liar and a thief. He pretended to know about jewelry design, and promised me a specific design. We paid him up front, over $1,500, and when the ring came, it was NOT AT ALL what I had asked for. He then refused to give me my money back. I hope no other family gets deceived by this business like we did. He still has the ring, AND OUR MONEY. Save yourself, stay away.
I don't think I would have been able to pull of my engagement if it was not for Portillo Jewelers, the staff, and Ricardo Portillo himself! Growing up in the Rio Grande Valley, home to 100s of family owned businesses, I knew I wanted go with a family owned jewelry store to purchase my fiancés engagement ring, and I am very glad I did! Ricardo and his team helped me select the perfect ring even though I was living 500+ miles away in Houston. It only took my one phone call and a few sentences of what I wanted and they took care of the rest... they educated me on diamonds, listened to my budget, and most importantly made me feel comfortable about purchasing a ring without even seeing it. They not only gained my business for this purchase but a customer for lifetime. I will always recommend anyone to them!
Portillo Jewelry has excelent customer service. A few months ago I bought my wife her engagement ring and it came out beautiful, it was a custom made setting with a .75 ct. Hearts & Arrows. Ricardo gave me the best price and the best service. I would totally recomend this place. Yesterday my wife took her rings for polishing and came back very happy because of the service and well the Portillo Promise is your best option for any customer.
