The staff at this hospital is very, very unprofessional. They are not knowledgeable in the needs of their patients and then have the audacity to tell us that it's not their fault because they are understaffed. Among other things this is part of what happened: they told us that they could not get to our father right away and had advised him to "just go in his diaper" and they would clean him up later. What happened to Nursing staff taking care of their patients' dignity? On top of that, our father is in there to have his toe surgically removed (another topic to discuss) because of gangrene and then they want him to use the bathroom in "his diaper"? So that they can clean him "LATER" and have him get ulcers on his behind and have those turn to gangrene as well???
Have visited MMC several times as a patient and visitor. Both my children were born in this hospital. I have no complaints, service is satisfactory.
Awesome service, staff is very attentive to your needs. I was there about two weeks ago for gallbladder surgery. Good bedside manner from the nursing staff.
Our father cannot distinguish a face, he sees silhouette's - he is losing his eyesight. His needs are posted all over his wall. An unknown staff member went to his room to move his sliding table closer to him so he could eat. His arm was on the handrail. They slid (more like slammed) the table down right on top of his arm causing a gash and loss of a lot of blood. Enough blood to leave traces all on the unhinged side of the table and underneath, the hand rail, his walker, and his bed. We could not even fathom how the blood got on his walker. We never received a phone call to let us know about the incident, nor was the incident recorded in his chart but his arm was cleaned and bandaged. We took plenty of pictures and let the Nursing staff have it! The only thing the nursing staff was concerned about - was 'how WE spoke to them' about everything that had happened. Never concerned about our fathers dignity - just theirs! There is more - but I think you get where I am going with this. The staff needs to take their Nursing courses all over again with an emphasis on Patients' Quality of Life!
Horrible hospital. One would expect better care in a third-world facility. It's no wonder the nurses who work in McAllen Regional refer to it as working in Iraq. Amazingly filthy with understaffed and underequipped individuals. Even the ICU is horrific. This hospital kills people and should be shut down.
As I was waiting in the ER for my mother to be seen, I overheard a conversation from a couple of the staff members. One of the nurses by the name of Ruben in the ER was explaining how he treats difficult patients to his peers. He was explaining how he uses the biggest gauge possible to hurt the patient! This so called "nurse" takes revenge on people who are on their most vulnerable moments. I understand that some patients may be very difficult, but is this how healthcare professionals should treat their patients? making a cowardly move such as this one on a patient who is not aware of what is going on. The "nurse" went on saying how he even asks patients to go outside for a fight when their are being aggressive. How unprofessional. I do not know if this guy was being serious or he was just bragging about this. Either case, unprofessional behavior such as this should never be tolerated. I got to overhear this conversation, and this is enough for me to not ever go to this hospital again! McAllen Medical Center should hire professionals, or at least provide ethical training for their staff.
